Firenze Dei Bambini 2024Within the 2024 edition of “Firenze dei bambini”, Museo Galileo is proposing the following educational activity:

I Medici e le scienze. La prima rete meteorologica europea
20 April 2024, at 11.00 a.m.

Meteorology, a word of Greek origin meaning "study of celestial phenomena," is very ancient. However, not many people know that modern scientific meteorology was born in Tuscany - in Florence namely - at the initiative of Grand Duke Ferdinand II, who in 1654 established the first meteorological network to survey data from different geographical locations. In 1657, thanks to the creation of the Accademia del Cimento, a group of scientists began to investigate the atmosphere using the experimental scientific method, recording atmospheric parameters with homogeneous instruments and uniform surveying procedures.

The activity, which will be held in Italian, will allow visitors to admire the Accademia del Cimento's beautiful thermometers: they will learn how they are used, watch demonstrations on vacuum and the making of artificial lightning with the electrostatic machine.

Saturday 20 April at 11:00 a.m.

Duration: about 60 minutes

Cost: free activity

Info and reservation through Eventbrite.

The activity will be held in Italian. It is suitable for children aged 6 to 12, who must be accompanied by an adult throughout the activity.
