The Mind of Leonardo: The Universal Genius at Work

Although Leonardo is commonly known as a "universal genius," the exhibitions dedicated to him have almost always focused on some specific area of his activity – art, anatomy, technology, studies on water, on flight, and so on. The Mind of Leonardo, conceived by Paolo Galluzzi, offers visitors a different point of view, encouraging the exploration of the Genius’ way of thinking. By focusing on his unitary concept of knowledge, it stresses how he strove to assimilate the universal laws that govern all the wondrous operations of man and nature, by combining daring theoretical synthesis with ingenious experimentation. The exhibition's new approach helps to elucidate the mystery that usually surrounds the figure of Leonardo. Seen in this perspective, his mind appears engaged in the effort of deciphering the rational processes that govern phenomena in the physical world as well as in living organisms, guided by his desire to perfectly imitate nature in both drawing and painting.
