The photographic archive consists of a wide collection of plates, films, prints, slides and digital photographs, which fully illustrate the history of our Museum and the main activities of our Institute: many thousands of photographs and slides regard the instruments of the museum's collections and deposits, framed as a whole or in detail. Other photos represent the exhibition rooms of the Museum, thus allowing to retrace the different layouts from 1930 up to nowadays. The photographic archive gives a broad overview of the Institute's life, since it precisely documents inaugural ceremonies, extraordinary events, conferences and exhibitions.
Moreover, the archive has a rich section devoted to Italian and foreign museums and collections of scientific-historical interest.
Noteworthy are the historical photo collections.
The cataloguing of the photographic material is ongoing.
Many photos are available in digital version. The materials, which are not accessible through the online catalogue, are available in intranet in the ICONA database.
