Scientists of Italy, Unite!

In order to celebrate its first birthday as well as the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, Museo Galileo releases Scientists of Italy, Unite! Science and Politics: The National Conferences of Italian Naturalists, a virtual exhibition highlighting the contribution of Italian scientists to the unification process.

The exhibition was premiered on the occasion of the recent visit of the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano to Museo Galileo. It makes available the extraordinary collection of documentation and iconographic material related to the Conferences of Italian scientists from 1839 to 1875, which is housed in the museum library. It consists of 36 folders containing several thousands of manuscript sheets. The material of greatest value is the completely unedited corpus documenting the conference held in Venice in 1847, which was interrupted by Austrian police. All materials are available for free download in various formats (image, html and soon in pdf).
