A3 Amico Museo 2019 Cicale LRSaturday, May 11, 2019, at 3.30 pm

As part of this year's “Amico Museo” initiative, which is sponsored by the Regione Toscana and aims to enhance Tuscan museums' collections, Museo Galileo presents a special lecture by Cesare Brizio.

The mechanism that allows cicadas to sing, which has fascinated scientists the caliber of Galileo, has been researched several times between the 16th and 18th centuries. As an acoustic phenomenon linked to animal communication, the song of cicadas is studied by disciplines such as bioacoustics and eco-acoustics: their research methods will be illustrated in the meeting, which will include listening to the singing of homegrown and exotic species.
