With the publication of its fourth volume (Documenti, edited by M. Camerota and P. Ruffo), the project of updating the National Edition of Galileo’s Works has been brought to a successful conclusion.
This project—carried out under the supervision of the Museo Galileo and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture—has been aimed at integrating and expanding the historic Edizione Nazionale edited by Antonio Favaro, with the addition of illustrations, texts, letters and documents that were not included in the twenty volumes published between 1890 and 1909. The four volumes of the Appendix Series intend to provide Galilean scholars with significant new material that should stimulate further research along innovative lines.
