In 2004, the Museo Galileo Digital Library was instituted for the purpose of publishing digital collections on themes of interest to the history of science. It consists of digital collections representing documents of different types, such as printed works, manuscripts, photographs, and objects, scientific instruments in particular. The Museo Galileo Digital Library may thus be considered an information system used to consult the wealth of knowledge offered by the thematic collections as a whole, consisting of digital resources in various formats – images, texts, video, audio, etc. The most substantial part undoubtedly consists of the publication of over 4000 works, many of them rare and hard to find.
