Relativity from Galileo to Einstein

This exhibition is one of the four shows converging in the “network exhibition” under the title Albert Einstein: Chief Engineer of the Universe, which was produced in collaboration with the Max-Planck-Institut of Berlin to celebrate the World Year of Physics 2005. The Italian venues are Florence, Pavia, Bologna, and Bari. Each of the four exhibitions develops special topics marking the relationship of the hosting city with the great scientist. The Florence show runs through the steps which led to the birth of contemporary physics. Two interactive workshops are devoted to Galileo, who realized the principle of the so-called classical relativity by observing the motion of bodies, and to both Einstein’s special and general relativity. A movie made for the occasion, multimedia and easy-to-make experiments help visitors to better understand the cultural universe of both scientists and the significance of their discoveries.
