Beyond the Compasses: The Geometry of Curves

The exhibition illustrates simple and complex curves and their mathematical properties, with particular attention to those regulating their application to science and technology as well as to everyday life. Hands-on exhibits, PC stations and a selection of the books which marked the main stages of geometrical thought, take visitors on three different but interlaced tours. The first exhibition route features the chief ideas of the geometry of curves. The second runs through the historical evolution of the very concept of curves. Finally, the third tour illustrates the uses of curves and their properties in relation to science and techniques.
