Website

The planispheric astrolabe is the most versatile astronomical calculator built in antiquity. The instrument, of which some scholars attribute the invention to Hipparchus of Nicaea (2nd century BC), had great success, so much so that it remained unsurpassed until the seventeenth century, when more precise mechanical watches and more advanced methods of calculation overcame it.

The application (available only in Italian) allows you to retrace its long history, discovering through an interactive animation and documents to consult and download the elements that compose it and its many functions.
