The Museo Galileo for the Braille National Day 2017

The Museo Galileo celebrates its third National Braille Day (February 21) through a series of events that have been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Stamperia Braille della Regione Toscana (Tuscan Braille Printery) and the Unione Italiana Ciechi e Ipovedenti (Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired).

On Saturday, February 25, at 3:00 p.m. a special museum visit for the blind is scheduled, who will be guided by Andrea Gori, head of the museum’s educational department. On that occasion, the PaLEoS company will show how a 3D printer works for science education. At 4:00 p.m Emma Angelini, professor at the Politecnico di Torino, will perform some animated readings from La chimica in versi by Alberto Cavaliere.
Both events will be held in Italian.

From February 21 to 25 the exhibition Tecniche e strumenti per la scrittura Braille (Braille Writing Techniques and Instruments), which had run at the Museo Galileo in the last two years, illustrates through a tactile tour how the blind can access museums and engage with the works on display.

The exhibition displays Braille writing instruments and early-20th-century tactile books bearing witness to the activity of the Braille Printery in Florence, as well as the image molds used for the Braille guide book of the Museo Galileo.

This year’s edition is enriched by 3D printed anatomic models from the museum collections.
