Celebrating Galileo’s birthday, born on February 15, 451 years ago

The Museo Galileo and the Natural History Museum of Florence celebrate this special occasion with two initiatives centering on scientific dissemination: at the Museo Galileo visitors will be welcomed by the scientist himself, who will accompany them through the halls displaying the beautiful collections of ancient scientific instruments. The zoological section of the Natural History Museum, called “La Specola”, will explain its Tribuna di Galileo, a monument which was built in 1841 to celebrate the Galilean scientific discoveries and the protagonists of the progress of experimental sciences.

Thanks to the promotional initiative between the Museo Galileo and the Museum "La Specola", purchasing a full fee ticket in any of these museums, visitors can access the other with a reduced fee ticket.

Still in the month of February, on Sunday 22, another important event is celebrated jointly by the two museums: the 240th anniversary of the Royal Museum of Physics and Natural History.

Both occasions aim at making the scientific heritage of Florence known to citizens and tourists: a heritage consisting of beautiful scientific collections, which are as precious as art collections.
