Opening times

The Museum is open every day including Sundays and holidays except for 1 January and 25 December

Mondays to Sundays 9.30 - 18.00
Tuesdays 9.30-13.00

Museo Galileo is part of the Firenze Card Circuit. Find out what it is and how it works.

Special promotion between Museo Galileo and La Specola museum - the zoological section of the University of Florence Natural History Museum: visitors who buy a full ticket in one of the two museumscan access the other with a reduced fee.


Tickets are sold up to 30 minutes before closing time. The bookshop closes 15 minutes before museum closing time.


Access is permitted only to guide dogs for the blind, provided they are kept on a lead and wear a muzzle, and to domestic animals certified as providing pet therapy.



Opening times

Reading Room: Monday through Friday 9.00 a.m.-4.30 p.m.; Saturdays: 9.00 a.m.-1.00 p.m.
Distribution: Monday through Friday 9.00 a.m.-1.00 p.m. / 2.00 p.m.-4.00 p.m.; Saturdays: 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Materials stored in the off-site warehouse are delivered the day after they are requested.



Access to the library is reserved to:

  • professors and researchers in possession of a document attesting to their professional position
  • fellowship holders and doctorate students with certification from a university, the CNR or a similar institution
  • students and degree candidates with a letter of recommendation from their professor
  • collaborators of the Museo Galileo
  • scholars who do not fall within the above categories but can demonstrate a legitimate need to access the library collections for their research and studies
