SUMMARY: MIRABILIA GRAPHICA. Micrographic Calligrams of Ignazio Muligino

DESCRIPTION:From 18 June to 18 October 2026, the Museo Galileo hosts an exhibition dedicated to a rare and highly original work created at the end of the 17th century.\N \N\NThe exhibition focuses on an extraordinary work: a calligram that exploits the properties of the microscope to make it possible to read a text that is almost invisible and illegible to the naked eye. The writing forms an image of the Madonna and Child derived from a painting by Pietro da Cortona now housed at the Louvre, Saint Martina with the Virgin and Child (1643). The author is Francesco Ignazio Muligino, a calligrapher active between France and Italy at the end of the 17th century, who was able to harness optical science in support of his art.\NExhibition website\N

DESCRIPTION:International Workshop organized by the Lise Meitner Group “Coded Objects” at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max Planck Institute and the Medici Archive Project, in collaboration with Museo Galileo.\NWhen is a drawing complete, independent, or “finished?” Is the concept of completion a conscious decision made by the artist, or something that happens later, in the hands of collectors, dealers, curators, or algorithms? The aim of this workshop is to investigate when and whether drawings were considered “finished” and how that sense of completion is frustrated as drawings move between contexts from the fifteenth century to today.\NThis two-day workshop will be hosted across three venues: on the first day at the Medici Archive Project (Palazzo Alberti), and on the second day at the Kunsthistorisches Institut (Palazzo Grifoni Budini Gattai) with a visit to the drawing collection of the Museo Galileo.\NFor further info:https://www.khi.fi.it/it/aktuelles/veranstaltungen/2026/09/marking-completion.php

SUMMARY:Bright-Night 2026 - Storage and Archives of the Museo Galileo
CREATED:20260828T122445Z

DESCRIPTION:What do a museum’s storage rooms tell us? What do archives reveal? Two young researchers present significant discoveries resulting from the reorganization of the storage rooms. Working with collection items, from cataloging and preventive conservation to handling, is a fundamental part of the Museum's research. Although little known to the public, this work brings forgotten objects back to light.
