On September 10, the Museo Galileo will participate in Expo 2025 Osaka at the Italian Pavilion with the scientific outreach project “Galileo’s Legacy.” Co-produced with INAF-National Institute for Astrophysics and VIS-Virtual Immersions in Science, with the support of the Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO) and the Italian Office of Astronomy for Education (I-OAE) of the International Astronomical Union, the project aims to build a bridge between Galileo’s historical heritage and the challenges of contemporary astrophysics, highlighting the social and cultural value of the scientific method.
The day’s program includes two main events: “Becoming Galileo,” an educational workshop for high-school students, and “Galileo’s Legacy: Uniting Worlds through Science,” an international roundtable on scientific diplomacy. Students and participants in the roundtable will enjoy the immersive experience of “Galileo VR. The Life, the Discoveries, the Trial”, a virtual reality video produced by VIS in collaboration with the Museo Galileo.
The Museum is also present in the Italian Pavilion with a video that allows visitors to explore the celestial globe supported by the Farnese Atlas, the imposing sculpture from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, exhibited for the first time in Japan and symbol of Italy at the Osaka Expo.
