The Biographical Archive of Italian Scientific Culture (ABCSI) is a joint initiative of the Italian Society for the History of Science (SISS), the CNR-ILIESI Institute (as part of the PROSIT Project), the Museo Galileo in Florence, and Roma Tre University. The primary aim of the project is the creation of an open-access digital collection of biographical entries for individuals who have contributed, in a variety of roles, to the development of Italian scientific culture from the year 1000 to the present. The entries are accompanied by a set of metadata developed according to FAIR principles. The first phase of the project resulted in the creation of a lemmatized index comprising approximately 3,800 entries, which can be accessed at the following link: https://baserow.io/public/grid/QjqZFkHBNN3L9xEeftTxkhmaBWd0VZbbKfi_31SgFWA. The platform that will host the archive has been developed within the framework of the PNRR H2IOSC project and is expected to be completed by autumn 2025. Given the scope of the project and the diversity of the disciplinary fields involved, all types of contributions by the scholarly community—from submitting biographical entries to proposing new subjects or offering suggestions—are not only welcome but, in fact, essential to the success of the initiative. A form for submitting proposals is available here: https://framaforms.org/per-collaborare-al-progetto-abcsi-1745342109. Further information about the project can be found on https://www.iliesi.cnr.it/abcsi.php.
