Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia
Villa Fabbricotti, Via Vittorio Emanuele II 64, Florence
The round table, organised by the Tuscan Coordination of ICOM Italia in collaboration with the Photography Working Group of ICOM Italia, the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia and the Museo Galileo, is part of the series of meetings entitled “Museum stories, conversations between colleagues”.
The digitisation of historical negatives is a central issue for museums, archives and libraries that hold important photographic collections. Many institutions are undertaking complex projects, both as part of the National Digitisation Plan and through joint projects between organisations working on exceptional heritage: rare calotypes, glass and film negatives, and hand-coloured slides. The initiative proposes a dialogue between experts from various Italian institutions to share technical choices, critical issues, solutions, strategies, and results, from the digitisation phase to the enhancement of collections through digital publications and exhibitions. It is an opportunity to compare approaches, methods and visions, involving conservators, curators, restorers, operators, and photographers.
