This year’s prestigious Lyncean Prize of the Minister of Culture for Philosophical Sciences was awarded to Michele Camerota, Professor of the History of Science and Techniques at the University of Cagliari, a member of the Museo Galileo’s Scientific Committee, co-director of Galilaeana. Studies in Renaissance and Early Modern Science, the Museum’s international journal, and long-standing collaborator of the Museum itself. The ceremony was held on June 13 at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

Prof. Camerota—as stated in the official motivation—‘is the author of a remarkable number of world- acclaimed works on Galileo Galilei, on the relations between science, philosophy and religion in the Early Modern Age, on the history of scientific academies and on some of the most renowned twentieth-century exponents of the Scientific Revolution.’ From his work ‘emerges the vocation of the scrupulous investigator of primary sources, in particular of unpublished texts and correspondence.’.
