On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the Museo Galileo (1925-2025), a significant portion of the correspondence preserved in the personal archive of Andrea Corsini is being published online. Corsini was one of the founders and the first director of the Institute and Museum of the History of Science, which is now the Museo Galileo.
The collection, which was organized and described between 2011 and 2012, includes private documents (certificates and diplomas), printed clippings related to the history of science and a large amount of documents relating to Corsini's work as director of the Florence Municipal Health Office.
The most significant and interesting series are those relating to correspondence, divided into "Letters and Notes" and "Postcards and Telegrams". They contain approximately 2,500 letters, notes, telegrams and postcards which were received by Corsini between the late nineteenth (19th?) century and 1957.
The collection includes numerous letters written by historians of science (such as Arnold C. Klebs, Charles Singer, George Sarton and others), fellow physicians (including David Giordano, Arturo Castiglioni, Pietro Grocco, Achille Scalvo, etc), as well as from leading figures in Italian culture (Guglielmo Marconi, Mario Salmi, Giovanni Gentile, etc).
The more than 1,660 items in the "Letters and Tickets" series are now digitally available in the Collective Database.
