EcoMuse Lab, the innovative project born from the collaboration between five Florentine centres of excellence in education and culture—Museo Galileo, Artex, Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, ISIA Firenze Design, and the University of Florence—is featured at the Salone del Mobile di Milano 2026, the world’s premier international design event. EcoMuse Lab is one of six national pilot projects selected by the Ministry of Culture (MiC)—participating in the Salone del Mobile for the first time—to represent a new vision of museum merchandising under the “Made in MiC” programme. This selection confirms the quality and national relevance of a design model established in Florence, which successfully blends innovation, sustainability, and cultural heritage.

Funded by the Ministry of Culture as part of Mission 1 of the PNRR Capacity Building – Ecological Transition and supported by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, EcoMuse Lab aims to define new environmental sustainability standards for museum bookshops and promote the ecological transition of the entire production supply chain. A key component of the project is the platform www.museisostenibili.it, which serves as a repository for documents and guidelines designed to assist museums, designers, and artisans in developing sustainable museum merchandise.

The prototypes developed within the project, inspired by Museo Galileo’s collections, are on display in Hall 22/24 “Made in MiC”. On April 21st, the Executive Director of Museo Galileo, Roberto Ferrari, attended the official opening event of the MiC pavilion. On April 24th, there will be a round table titled ‘The Birth of the Prototype: Conception, Design, and Construction’.
