Georg Christoph Lichtenberg newsFriday 15 July 2022 at 20.00

On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Walter Benjamin's birth, on 15 July 2022 the radio drama Lichtenberg. Uno spaccato, produced by the Teatro Metastasio of Prato, will be broadcasted on Rai Radio 3 in its Italian premiere.

The protagonist of the work is the German physicist and writer Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742-1799), whose life is being studied by a committee of selenites observing the Earth to determine the causes of human unhappiness. Drawing on the lunar utopias that had been performed on the theatre scene in previous centuries, this work by Benjamin creates a fascinating interweaving of perspectives and an interplay of literary, scientific and philosophical topics.

On the occasion of the broadcast of Benjamin’s work, two listening groups, starting from 19.30, will participate live on Rai Radio 3: one from the Museo Galileo, with Giorgio Strano, head of collections, and Natacha Fabbri, historian of science and philosophy; one from the Teatro Mandolfi in Prato, with Rodolfo Sacchettini, curator of the project, and Claudio Morganti, director.

The radio drama, in the Italian translation by Umberto Gandini and for the direction and sound-musical processing of Claudio Morganti, was recorded at Andrea Benassai’s Sonoria Studio, and sees the involvement of Monica Demuru, Claudio Morganti, Francesco Pennacchia, Francesco Rotelli, Gianluca Stetur, Paola Tintinelli, as well as the participation of Roberto Abbiati and Ilaria Marchianò. This programme is part of a bigger project, The insivible art: Radio dramas, curated by Rodolfo Sacchettini.
