Library mission and activities

Research library specialized in the history of science and technology, the Library of the Museo Galileo aims to support historical studies on the various scientific disciplines, on technology and medicine from the ancient world up to the first half of the twentieth century.


The library houses about 170,000 works concerning the history of science. The antique book collection, consisting of nearly 5,000 works, is supplemented by several 19th-20th century collections as well as a contemporary collection which has an annual growth of hundreds of new acquisitions.

Opening and distribution

Monday through Friday 9.00 a.m.-4.30 p.m.; Saturdays: 9.00 a.m.-1.00 p.m.
